Artwork Description:
Development Out of Center, like other works in the Sports Art series, interrogates the perennial question of subordination: what yields, and to whom? The central black triangle, emblematic of unyielding strength, serves as both a literal and metaphorical axis around which the other shapes revolve, symbolizing the concentration of authority or influence. The surrounding constellation of multicolored squares, pentagons, and octagons represents diverse agents or entities subject to this core force, suggesting how disparate elements within a system must negotiate their own identities and motions in relation to dominant powers. Through this symbolic arrangement, the artwork prompts viewers to consider how structures of authority are maintained and how the persistent gravity of a centralized core shapes the periphery.
